Chris Tynan’s Century Batteries supported 55 Chevrolet Doorslammer team were under no illusions about how tuff the ANDRA Pro Series Drag Racing Top Doorslammer division was going to be. With 29 + local racers and some eight of them already 5 second members, it was going to be a big ask just to qualify for the 8 car field, so the plan was just to see how close the NZ car set up was on a track that was as good as anywhere in the world. You would have thought that a well prepped track would have made the car stick and not shake the tyres well there in lies the $64 question on how these high horsepower cars get down a race track. Unfortunately the heavier and higher horsepower cars have a harder time trying to control this problem. A couple of adjustments and a clean run in the second round netted the Century Batteries 55 a personal best of 6.20 @ 227.69. Not bad for the first full pass on Australian soil but with a 6.11 bump it was going to be tuff. With the better cool night air and a slightly cooler track that suited the NZ car set up they were hopeful of a better number. Unfortunately because they were forced to use a remote starter after their on board starter failed the remote version loosened the blower drive belt and the car could not make a pass.Without another qualifying shot they could not improve on their previous performance and with John Zappier getting in with his last qualifying pass this dropped the Tynan entry down to number 10th on the list, not good enough for the eight car field but then........... there where 5 locals on the out side behind him. Chris would like to thank: Century Batteries NZ Ltd, Team Bray Racing, Mahana Graphics Hamilton and the Tynan team.
