Masterton Motorplex have started the earth works on their new facility. “We feel this is the biggest thing that has happened for drag racing in many years” said club president Bob Wilton.This is the first time a purpose built drag strip has been built in 35 years. The last one being Thunder Park Hawkes Bay Masterton Motorplex International Drag Strip was started last Thursday by Oldfeilds one of the main contactors on stage one of the project. “Stage one is the race track, stage two is the pits and stage 3 is the amenities” said Mr Wilton. The total area of the site is 33 hectares leased by Masterton Motorplex from the Masterton District Council.Stage one is hoped to be completed by April 2012 depending on funding which will get racers up and racing.
