ROUND TWO OF THE CENTURY YUASA POWER SERIES SUMMER

NATIONALS IN TAUPO DELIVER TIGHT RACING, RECORDS AND NEW FACES ON THE PODIUM.

The drag racers nemesis - rain – nearly washed all hope of a successful one day Kumeu Classic Car and Hot Rod Festival Summer Nationals held at Taupo International Dragway, but a hard working team and revised tight schedule provided the many spectators with a great race meeting with close racing and some new faces taking the winners spots!

With qualifying reduced to a one shot deal, the racers rallied and made up for lost time by keeping the staging lanes full at every opportunity.

With Top Alcohol easily one of the most competitive brackets in the Yuasa Power Series, a well deserved first competition win went to Shane Lodge, securing valuable points in the Power Series National Championship. Both Chris Johnston (Harcourts) and John Neilan in the Digga Top Alcohol Dragster suffered engine damage.

Parry Hunt soloed for a win coming to grips with the stunning new Camaro Top Doorslammer and again putting National Championship points  “in the bank “.

Athol Williams – remember him – the first kiwi to win a National Championship in Australian Drag Racing History - reset the Top Bike record (to be ratified) with a cool 6.68 and 325.64 km/h and was well received by the Taupo fans.

The low of the event was Kevin Macgregor tagging the immovable Taupo wall and damaging the front of the Castrol Edge Pontiac – more work for the Heat Treatments team.

With NZDRA’s direction and Century Power backing the National Series, drag racing in NZ is on the “up and up”!

Watch for news relating to the next round of the Yuasa Power Series, the Digga Southern Nationals held at Powerbuilt Raceway, Ruapuna, Christchurch on the 30th January.
