Rain is the big nemesis of drag racing and although the weather was predicted to bring rain by mid afternoon they could not have got it more wrong.Hot scorching sun in the 30’s was on the menu, unfortunately what the met service had not predicted was the gusting cold side winds that came up around 5 o’clock from the south, at one stage while checking with the wind meter a reading over 30 knots was recorded! This was deemed a real safety concern to the NZDRA staff who called an emergency drivers meeting indicating these concerns, particularly with motorcycles and competition vehicles with chutes. With three qualifying rounds completed and halfway through the first round it was not the ideal time to stop the racing but safety comes first. After being told by the host track tomorrows rain date was not an option. The NZDRA officials deemed 60 point across the divisions to all entered racers and cancellation of remainder of the meeting would be the safest option. After some discussion most racers wished to continue and monitor the conditions with Top Doorslammer and Modified racers electing to race to the 1/8th mile only and a report from the Competition bike rep these competitors would wisely withdraw with the 60 point option. With these modifications it made it very difficult to reset the schedule and run a smooth flowing event but with the racers cooperation the meet finished with all but Top Alcohol and Top Doorslammers to ran their finals. Both of these division’s will run off at the Trust House Nationals in Masterton on the 20th & 21st of February.   Big thanks to the drivers, with their patience and perseverance we got through a difficult day.mmcmillan3              Nick Hay Photoimg_2680
