TRUST HOUSE CENTRAL SUNSHINE RACING |

The Trust House Central Nationals again turned out one of the best weekends racing of the Century Yuasa Power Series events. Imagine what could be done with a purpose built facility where the dedicated team could put all their energy into other areas instead of having to put a kit set dragstrip together out of Masterton’s Hood aerodrome. Some of the best drifting was seen in group one on the 20th & 21st when drivers did not want to give the opposition the opportunity to gain valuable points to their championship hopes. The Digga dragster of John Neilan was holding a good points lead going into this event against rival Todd Vincent he was to farther that lead when he won the Southern Nationals final during the second qualifying round and then extended that lead when he also took out the Trust House Nationals final against Vincent who is struggling to find the performance that may upset the Digga team.Another team that was pulling good consistent numbers was the Goodyear sponsored dragster of Bert King. Unable to contest the complete series due to commitments in Thailand, Bert kept the Chevrolet powered dragster flying with 6.40s and .9 sixty foot times looking like having an auto instead of a clutch was an advantage in more ways than one (maintenance, consistency, etc). The shorter wheelbase of the two funnys of Rivers and McMillin had trouble getting down the unforgiving air strip surface and with mechanical issues forcing Rivers to retire and a 7.50 pass in the first round for McMillin was not going to stop the Vincent machine from taking that pairing. If the Funny cars were a handful to get down the air strip the Doorslammers where always going to be a challenge and with Parry Hunts 69 Camaro out first for the first qualifier the other racers were all watching to see how the track would handle the PSI powered machine. What they saw was not what they were expecting! With a little too aggressive set up for the first run the car started to haze the tyres 200 feet out the rear end started to step to the left where Parry wisely lifted, unfortunatly as soon as the car appeared to straightened he hit the throttle again causing the rear to come around to the right very quickly, trying to correct, it came around again on opposite lock dug in then rolled 7 or 8 times coming to rest at the finish line. Parry thankfully was still in one piece and moving when the ambulance staff arrived with reports later on of him sustaining some broken ribs and bad bruising. On the positive side there was some great racing amongst the other T/D racers with Mike Witteveen in the Wittz Automotive Ferrari just missing the win against the STA Falcon of Squig Miles and the final coming down to the Fuchs Oil 56 Customline of Mark Thomas and Ross Taylors 57 Chevy when Thomas cut a .784 light to a .480 and lost a 7.24 to Rosscos 7.50! Other notable racers where the wheel standing antics of the Pro Drill Escort driven by Lee Sherwin is Super Sedan taking the win from points leader John McGinty in the green Ford F100. The wheel stands of Sam Levine’s Brave Design Duster and Wayne Grimmers Optima Batteries Barracuda continued but Sam took out Wayne in the first round and then lost to winner Jeff Dobson in the Pertik Camaro. Modified finally had a new face to the winners circle when Andy Chapman was beaten by points leader Adrian Rivers in the second round who eventually meet Alex Hogg in the Ford Cammer RE Dragster in the final where Alex took the win with a double breakout.

TRUST HOUSE CENTRAL NATIONALS MASTERTON |

Trust House are once again the event sponsors of the Century Yuasa Power Series national round held at the Masterton Motorplex. With events of this size coming to the Wairarapa we bring a bigger awareness of our sport and the need to pursue a venue worthy of the 3000hp machines racing this weekend.Top Doorslammer has had a great turnout of racers this season with some exciting racing throughout, with Mike Witterveen’s Wittz Automotive Ferrari holding on to a 37 point lead over nearest rival Squig Miles in the STA Falcon with only two points separating Ross Taylor from him. With the final of the Digga round to be completed here at Masterton, Wayne Hussey may receive another 20 points if he can take out the Fuchs Customline of Mark Thomas, Mark although out of the seat of a race car for some time has kept up with the play by crewing on the Digga Dragster of John Neilan and if the first pass at the Digga event was anything to go by has a handle on the clutch vs power balancing act it takes to get a doorslammer down the NZ tracks. The other final to be run at the Trust House event is of cause the Top Alcohol dragsters of the Vincent family driven by 21 year old Todd Vincent and the Digga Dragster of John Neilan. Neilan would love to take the title of his sponsors event (Digga) unfortunately the points are needed by his opposition if they are to keep there hopes of a forth championship trophy. With the world renown Camp Stanley out for tune-up advice in the Vincent team this weekend who would put a wager on the win? Ok 3000 hp machines are not the only action on track at the Trust House event, there are a number of 300 hp hopefuls also taking a chance on getting to the winners spot and although not difficult to traverse the strip cutting a good light and running on your dial in is tuff, especially when you have to do it up to 7 times in competition!
Super Street is not about a vehicles performance as much as the racers performance, Scott Campbell is a prime example, after towing his friends Top Doorslammer around the country he unhooks the trailer and races his Ford Bronco pickup to 18 second passes and wins! Not earth shattering to watch compared to his own 8 second Mustang but vehicle performance is not what this class is about. Super street has a 11.0 second limit and many of the racers would prefer to chase their opponent down and the five other competitors chasing Scott for a championship have to do just that. Leading Super Street is Rex Ford from Nelson with 8 points separating him from Gary Ellis from Taupo in his HQ Holden. Less than one round behind him is Darryl Robson in his XY Ute, Scott is 8 points behind him and last years champ Dave Chesham just 5 behind him in his model A roadster from Mt Maunganui. As can be seen very close and with sometimes 7 rounds of competition it’s anybodies.
