Pre entries for the Kumeu Classic Car and Hot Rod festival have closed but surprisingly an unbelievable field of Doorslammers have entered. Nine (9) of the unpredictable beasts will weave there way down Taupo International Dragway in an effort to take the win, none more so that Fram Northern Nationals winner Bob Owens who has a good start on the bigger performing racers of Ross Taylor and the soon to enter competition Parry Hunt.

Wayne Hussey missing the first Century Yuasa Power Series round due to parts not turning up  is keen to make up lost ground and a 7.0 pass at the recent track meeting at Fram Autolite says he is back on pace with only his line lock button to worry about.

Mike Witteveen although not making the final against Owens due a clutch issue has gained consistency and in Top Doorslammer that more often than not is what it takes to win.

Ford man through and through Squig has the STA Falcon performing very well and is another that would not be a surprise in a final, with more runs his performance will be a worry for many.

With some seat time under his belt Dave Tully now racing in the T/D division is another who could work his way through the more powerful but more unpredictable cars in the class, particularly on a surface that is very weather sensitive.

New comer to the T/D class but not new to racing is Tauranga’s Mike Reid, not new to the track is his new pride and joy, a certain 55 Chev that has always found the winners circle and still holds many track records around the country, getting used to a blown 526ci Chev & Lenco may take a bit to get used too though.

A welcome return although many did not see it when it first hit the track a couple of times here in NZ is Mark Thomas and his 526 TFX powered 56 Ford Customline. Mark recently signed up a major sponsor and had Robert Tynan of Rocket Speed Shop in Hamilton convert the car to left hand drive, another having to reacquaint himself to the driver’s seat this may hinder his performance….but then again……

Check back often for other class updates for the Kumeu Classic Car & Hot Rod Summer Nationals!
