The NZDRA Board would like to make this statement regarding this years National series events.
The NZDRA are committed in their drive to make Drag Racing in NZ more professional, sustainable and increase the value for the members and sponsors moving into the future.
The tracks that had held a National Event in the past were asked to submit a hire fee to the NZDRA Board for consideration to facilitate running a National round at their venue. The NZDRA Board had raised the minimum criteria for holding a National Event to the extent it needed to have a greater influence on the running and marketing of these events.
After negotiation with these Tracks, two where considered acceptable, one being Fram Autolite Dragway where two events will be held, and one event at Masterton Motorplex. These venues where deemed viable based on the cost of hireage, the working relationship with their management and the expected exposure from holding a National Event at their location.
The two Tracks that had their submissions declined as not meeting the criteria NZDRA deemed necessary to be acceptable for a National round, are free to run their track events at a standard they believe will make them viable.
As unfortunate as this is, the NZDRA believe that in the interests of driving the sport forward, these hard decisions needed to be made. We wish them the best in holding their own track run events and will do our utmost to advise and assist these Tracks in getting them to the level required for running a National Event in the future.
NZDRA intend to do their utmost to ensure a successful National Series for all and will continue to administer the sport throughout the country for the betterment of all involved with a view toward a positive future.
Series announcements to follow soon!
