After a record smashing and weather affected 1st round of the Century Yuasa Power Series, there are quite a few racers looking forwards (and upwards) to the next round, the Kumeu Classic Car and Hot Rod Festival Summer Nationals held at Taupo International Dragway on the 4th of January. The racetrack sits at an altitude of 1500 feet, and coupled with rapidly changing weather characteristics will present a challenge to the racers, particularly John Neilan in the Digga Top Alcohol Dragster – now officially New Zealand’s quickest and fastest alcohol fuelled race car - who is looking to maintain the performance advantage against astute racers such as Todd Vincent, Chris Johnson, Shane Lodge and the improving McMillin/Sheldon team. It is worth noting that Todd is the son of Mark Vincent (3 times National Champion) and Chris Johnston is the current National Champion! Top Doorslammer is an open field at the moment, with Ross Taylor not dominating as expected, the rookie T/D 2009 National Champion suffering mechanical problems in the first round and Bobby Owens picking up his first Power Series win and valuable series points. The big question is – who will run the first Alcohol five at the high altitude of Taupo International Raceway? And who is the Top Bike entrant also pre entered for the event – could it be the Australian Top Bike National Champion Athol Williams – January 4th 2010 will a great place to be for the Kumeu Classic and Hot Rod Festival Summer Nationals!
