Prepare for records to be broken in this year’s New Zealand Drag Racing Association’s Century Batteries Power Series.
Century Batteries Motorsport is ready for another highly-charged, adrenalin-fuelled drag racing season, as it once again supports the country’s premier national drag racing series.
The Century Batteries Power Series is a national points-based competition run over three events, which is open to all New Zealand Drag Racing Association’s (NZDRA) members.
Beginning on 6 February 2011, the series will see more than 150 competitors battling it out in their division at each of the three events to claim top points, break records and ultimately earn national titles.
CenturyYuasa Marketing Manager Gerard Wade says the company has had a long history of supporting NZDRA events and is very pleased to continue as the series sponsor for the second year.
“We see support of such a fantastic series as a way of connecting with our customers and recognising their interests and hobbies. Many of the racers and team members work in the automotive trade or have an association with it. Plus, most of the event’s spectators are motor sport enthusiasts, so they too have a heightened awareness of the industry,” says Mr Wade.
“As New Zealand’s leading supplier in automotive batteries, we are actively involved in a variety of motorsport events throughout the year.”
NZDRA CEO Chris Tynan says drag racing is fantastic for the thousands of spectators who attend each event as, unlike some motorsport competitions, you can see all the action from any vantage point around the track.
“These cars are reaching speeds of 400km/hr from a standing start within six seconds. The earth is shaking and the noise is incredible – it is such an adrenalin-fuelled sport,” says Mr Tynan.
“We already know there’ll be some national records broken this year, with fantastic results in preliminary races by the nitromethaned-fuelled Marsh Motorsport car, which is running in the top alcohol class against mechanically supercharged vehicles”.
The Century Batteries Power Series will be broadcast on TV3's Gillette Motorsport Show and Sky TV's Fujitsu Motorsport Show, with motorsport enthusiast and broadcaster Jamie McCarthy presenting both shows. Radio station
The Rock has also teamed up with the series and will provide listener giveaways and promotions before each event.
The Century Batteries Power Series begins on 6 February 2011 with the NZDRA Northern Nationals at Fram Autolite Dragway, Meremere. The weekend of 5-6 March sees the NZDRA Central Nationals held in Masterton and the series finishes with the NZ Nationals on the 19-20 March at Meremere.
